On October 9, Leipzig's inner city ring road will be bathed in a colorful spectacle of light and sound from 7 p.m. to midnight. At this year's Leipzig Festival of Lights, over twenty light art projects will bring the city to life - one of them with the support of our innovative technology: the Star48 AC Pro, one of our largest Acoustic Cameras.
In collaboration with the artists Tom Ritschel and Felix Ruffert, the interactive project “Der Erste macht das Licht” (The first one makes the light) transforms the building facades on Georgiring into a dynamic canvas. Thanks to the Star48 AC Pro, the sound of the visitors is translated into colorful projections in real time. Whether applause, singing or shouting - every sound makes the façades light up. The louder and more creative the contributions, the more intense and colorful the play of light.
With 48 microphones, the Star48 AC Pro records all the acoustic emissions of the evening and displays them on an acoustic map. With the help of the NoiseImage software, the sound field is calculated based on the different wavelengths and displayed visually in colors. Loud sounds appear in red, while quieter sounds are displayed in blue.
This technology, which is commonly used for precise acoustic measurements in outdoor industries such as wind energy, environmental protection and train pass-by measurements, is proving to be indispensable for the fast and accurate localization of noise emissions.
We cordially invite all Leipzig residents and guests to become part of this extraordinary experience and actively shape the colors of the evening! Further information on the overall program as well as a map with an overview of all stations of the Leipzig Light Festival can be found here.
